Etched Glass Made Simple with Vinyl Lettering from Wall Stamps

Recently Matha Stewart hightlighed another unique way to use vinyl lettering to create unique home decor. On Martha's show she showed us how she uses vinyl letters to give pantry jars an etched effect, creating beautiful, and functional etched glass storage jars for storing staples like flour, sugar, brown sugar, etc.

To create the jars you'll need:

  1. Glass Storage Jars

  2. Painters Tape

  3. Vinyl Letters

  4. Etching Creme

Tape of a square area of the front of the jar with the painters tape. Then apply the vinyl lettering where you'd like the letters to appear (within the taped off area). Next, cover the exposed glass area within the taped off section with etching creme, covering the vinyl letters. Follow the directions on the etching creme container. When you're done, you're going to peel of the used vinyl lettering, which will leave the glass area beneath unexposed to the etching cream, thereby giving you a nice etched glass container (see photo).

What Does Vinyl Lettering Have to Do With Easter?

If you've never seen stacker blocks, I can tell you this - most people love them! They're fun and simple to make using vinyl lettering, are a beautiful decor piece, and can be done to match your decor for any holiday throughout the year. We decided to show you some stacker blocks we made for easter this year.

We got some scrap wood from a building site that was going to be thrown away (my uncle owns a site...and donated the wood). You can either get scraps, or buy some from a home improvement store. I chose 2x4 and 2x6 pieces of differing lengths (see image). I then painted them in pastel easter colors...sanded down the edges to give the blocks an antique / distressed look. Next we measured the workable surface of each block...laid them out from start to finish with the intent to create the word "Easter." We had 6 blocks of differing sizes, laid them out how we wanted and assigned each a letter - e, a, s, t, e, and r. Next, we cut the vinyl letters out to fit the size of the block on which we placed it. We applied the letters to each block, and voila! We have a fun and beautiful table piece for the upcoming easter holiday.

Tasteful Dining Room Decor - Vinyl Wall Lettering

People are in love with wall lettering, and it's easy to see why. vinyl wall lettering is a fast, inexpensive, and easy way to add a personal touch to any room in your home, including your dining room. So, how can you use a wall of words to create a unique and inspiring dining room?

Step 1: Define The Purpose of Your Room. When you decorate with wall letters, it's helpful to consider what the room in your house is used for. If your dining room is used only on special occasions, use a more formal quote. However, if it is used for family gathering and everyday meals, etc. perhaps a quote about families, and gathering would be more appropriate. Defining your rooms purpose will help you find just the right quote for your wall with words.

Step 2: Select an area. Decide where you would like to place your vinyl wall letters. Take the measurement so that you know the area you have to work within. For example, if the area you have to work within is 8" tall x 20" wide, you'll want some vinyl lettering that is about 6" x 18" so that it doesn't crowd the borders of your area.

Step 3: Get your design. Working with a designer allows you to get the quote you want, but have it designed in a visually appealing way so that it enhances the look of your room. Many vinyl lettering companies say they do custom design, but they allow you to choose a size and font....that's it. Therefore, your vinyl letters end up looking very plain, and rather boring. With Wall Stamps, our vinyl lettering kits are designed by professional graphic designers, which gives you a more aestetically appealing product. You can plainly see the difference between our competitors lettering and our professionally designed kits.

Celebrity Apprentice Takes Advantage of Vinyl Lettering

Being that I'm in the vinyl lettering business, I always find it interesting how I notice different places that vinyl lettering is being used. Most people probably wouldn't give it second thought, but I noticed it being used on celebrity apprentice last night. How? Well, once the teams had chosen their names, shortly after you see the team names on their respective office suites - yes, you guessed it...done with a little bit of custom vinyl lettering.

Decorating A Child's Room Doesn't Need To Be Difficult

I often get requests from people wanting help decorating their childrens rooms , or their baby's nursery using vinyl lettering. But seldom, when it comes to decorating, do we adults consider how we might add some charm to our own bedrooms. So much of our lives are focused on our children, that we often overlook the fact that our own bedrooms may need a decorating makeover as well.

I've found that after a long day of wrestling with toddlers, or running kids to and from soccer practice, it's nice to have your own little sanctuary in your bedroom where you can go to relax and escape. One of the great things about vinyl lettering is that it's inexpensive, and you can use it to create a very calming atmosphere in your own bedroom. Using vinyl letters from Wall Stamps, you can create a little piece of heaven in your own bedroom by setting the mood with a favorite quote or saying.

A Unique Gift for All Occasions

One things for certain, we parents love to show off our kids. I don't know a dad at work who doesn't love to have a picture of his kids on his desk, or a mom who doesn't carry pictures of her kids in her purse or on her cell phone so she can show people her children. Whether we're dispalying our family photos at home, at work, or sending them to grandparents and distant family members, a custom picture frame can add value and give your pictures a sentimental touch. Furthermore, a custom picture frame is easy to make using some custom vinyl lettering from Wall Stamps.

If you're looking for a unique way to give pictures to those you love, try making a custom picture frame to send the images in. It's easier, and less expensive that you might think. Just take a plain wooden frame, paint it with some acryllic paint, and then affix some vinyl letters to it to create a personlized message. This makes a great gift for mothersday, fathersday, or christmas.

Make Your Vehicle Talk To Your Customers with Vinyl Lettering

A popular saying among sign makers is "A business with no sign is a sign of no business." It does ring true doesn't it? This is particularly true for those in a retail environment who rely on passers by for new business. However, signage can help just about any business, especially work at home or MLM businesses. Imagine if you could afford a billboard that would work for you 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year. Sounds expensive doesn't it? I mean, how much is a mobile billboard every month? The answer will surprise you - you can get a permanent mobile billboard for a one time fee of $40 or less. That's right, a one time fee. How? By turning your vehicle into a rolling billboard. It's fast, and easy to do with a little bit of custom vinyl lettering. So, what makes for good vehicle signage? Being that the sign is there to attract potential prospects, your signage needs to consider the following elements:

Clarity. One mistake that many people make is choosing frilly lettering and fonts that make your message hard to read from a distance. It's important to make sure your vinyl letters are large enough to be seen from a distance. While you do want to mix up the fonts a little bit to give it some visual appeal, make sure that they can be read from a distance. One thing that is important is the have your website address and phone number in a regular block style font, such as Arial, or Times New Roman, etc.
Branding. If your company has a logo, make sure to incorporate it into your signage somehow. You want your logo large enough to be seen, but not detract from your contact information, like your phone number and website address. Also, you want to make it clear exactly what you do. If your business name is Schmoe Enterprises, consider adding a tag line that describes what you do. If your name itself captures the essence of your business, like "Bob's Plumbing" this may not be needed.
Aside from the obvious reasons for utilizing vehicle signage to bring in new prospects and establish your brand, there may be additional benefits as well. In many states, there may be additional tax benefits and additional write offs for using your vehicle for business purposes. So, instead of driving your car around every day, like just another face in the crowd, use it to help bring in some additional business and grow your brand. It's really simple using some custom vinyl lettering.
